David S. Kim works closely with his clients to identify business opportunities, protect intellectual property rights, and mitigate legal risk. He facilitates invention harvesting exercises with engineering, business, and legal teams to identify whitespace for forwardlooking innovations, and guides them through various phases of product design and development. David has helped his clients procure hundreds of patents in the computer, electrical, and mechanical arts. As a former patent examiner, he draws on a unique perspective when guiding inventors and in-house counsel through the patent process, and strategically directs prosecution to cover competitor products, strengthen enforceability, and enhance licensability. David has extensive experience managing patent portfolios in a broad range of industries, including high tech, telecommunications, financial, healthcare, energy, aerospace, automotive, retail, and manufacturing. David also negotiates intellectual property and technology-related agreements, provides technical assistance, and performs due diligence to support a variety of legal and business activities, including litigation, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, technology development, manufacturing, marketing, sales, human resource management, and supply chain management. David has analyzed hundreds of invention disclosures, prototypes, and commercially-available products to render attorney assessments and opinions of patentability, trademark selection, freedom-to-operate, infringement, and validity issues.
