Courtney Smith
Courtney is a contractor supporting the NOAA Fisheries Office of Protected Resources’ Directed Take Program, with nearly two decades of research and resource management experience specializing in the behavioral ecology of marine protected species – particularly marine mammals – and mitigating human activities that may be affecting them. She is currently a lead analyst and subject matter expert for scientific research permits issued under the Marine Mammal Protection Act and Endangered Species Act, authorizing UAS activities directed at marine mammals and sea turtles and is involved in interagency coordination to establish best practice guidelines for responsible use of UAS by the general public.
