Railway & Locomotive Historical Society

Booth 4

The Railway & Locomotive Historical Society, founded in 1921, is the oldest organization in North America devoted to railroad history and among the first  to pursue  studies in the history of technology.

The Society promotes research and encourages preservation of documentation and photography of business history, finance, labor history, and biography as well as technology.  It publishes its journal, Railroad History, twice a year, and our most recent issue has “Inside EMD,” a multi-part, step-by-step, photo-driven look at the entire diesel-electric locomotive building process at the General Motors LaGrange plant by veteran employee Preston Cook.  The first part shows how structural steel shapes were turned into diesel engines.  Members also get a quarterly newsletter.  Come and see us for examples of both, as well as to join our organization.
