AUTHOR BONNIE LADY LEE TO READ STORIES,

SIGN BOOKS AT DISCOVERY MUSEUM THIS SATURDAY

Santa Maria, Calif. – June 14, 2017 – Children can be picky eaters, just like Karri, the koala in author Bonnie Lady Lee’s adorable book, The Down Under Salad Bowl. But little ones will learn that trying new foods is fun and an important part of life when Lee reads her story this Saturday, June 17, at 11 a.m. during an author visit and book signing at the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum.

Lee will also read and sign copies of Little Gift, based on a giant panda of the same name who lives in a zoo because he is an endangered species. Like all pandas, Little Gift loves bamboo, but he’s also fascinated by popcorn, a tasty treat zoo visitors tend to leave on the ground near his enclosure. Children at the author event will learn the science behind what makes popcorn pop.

“Bonnie Lee books are educational children’s books that teach life lessons through animals and their habitats,” Lee said. “Kids aren’t getting banged over the head with lots of facts. They’re getting introduced to the animal and hopefully taking away a fun story.”

A former patent agent, Lee started writing and illustrating children’s books as a way to express herself and to help animals.

“In a corporate job, you work an insane amount of hours and it’s very technical. You don’t have a lot of chances to be creative,” said Lee, who is currently working on board books Bonita the Fruit Bat Counts to Ten and Oliver the Octopus.

A portion of the profits from Lee’s books and iPad apps goes toward helping endangered species and their habitats. Her apps include a “tap and hear” forum for children to learn the pronunciation of words while they’re reading the books and a dress-up game with interchangeable outfits for the characters in her books.
