Concept i are delighted to be appointed as the lead design consultant for Europe’s tallest observation wheel development in Newcastle, UK. World Wheel Company, the project developer, is planning a 460ft high wheel on the city’s vibrant Quayside. The wheel, nick-named the “Whey Aye” would anchor a 344,500 sq. ft. destination leisure development including lifestyle f&b, a world-class visitor attraction, a family entertainment centre, and a multi-purpose play and sports complex. The project targets 800,000 visitors in its first year. A journey on the observation wheel would last 30 minutes.

The project team includes Ryder Architecture, retail property consultants @Retail, geotechnical consultancy Golder, planning consultancy Lichfields, and transport planning group Systra. The project is subject to planning permission. Detailed applications will be submitted to Newcastle City Council later this year.
