Fred + Nym, Popular Cat-Themed Greeting Cards by the Lobster Studio,
Comes to the National Stationery Show

FEBRUARY 3, 2019 — NEW YORK — The Lobster Studio, a New York City-based greeting card company, debuted their popular cat-themed Fred + Nym line of cards at the 2019 National Stationery Show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

The Lobster Studio currently sells Fred + Nym cards online, as well as directly to metropolitan-area customers. They felt that this year's NSS was the perfect time to make the jump to a national audience.

"We've received incredibly good feedback on our line," says Rachel Lauren James, co-founder of the Lobster Studio and manager of operations. "Fred + Nym are really connecting with our shoppers. Many people reach out through social media to let us know how much they love the characters, and we've been surprised at the number of repeat customers."

The line is illustrated by co-founder Ken Crossland, an artist and children's book designer with Penguin Random House. When he moved in with Rachel in 2018, he brought his cat, the real-life Fred, with him. Watching Fred interact with Rachel's cat, Nym, was a constant source of inspiration, leading to their first card—a hand painted holiday greeting that went to Rachel's mother.

"Once I made that first card, I knew we had something special," Ken remembers. "I loved them as a pairing, and drawing them together felt natural and fun."

The Lobster Studio currently sells 11 designs of Fred + Nym stationery, covering a wide variety of occasions. They vary in size from A2 to A1/4-Baronial, and MSRP from $4.50 to $5.00 for individual cards, and come in 4 separate boxed sets, priced at $18.00 each. The cards are printed on 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper with vegetable-based inks, and are produced in a facility that uses 100% renewable solar and wind energy. A portion of profits goes to no-kill animal shelters, the very same organizations where the real-life Fred and Nym were adopted.
