Humboldt Redwood Decking is the Local Choice for California Builders

Redwood is one of nature’s best building materials

SANTA ROSA, CA (March 26, 2019) – Competition in the decking space has never been fiercer. With man-made decking manufacturers popping up seemingly overnight, offering too many product formulations, colors, and sizes to count, deciding which decking to specify or install can be a real challenge. Luckily for builders and other specifiers in California, the best decking material is a local one. Humboldt Redwood, the leading manufacturer and distributor of redwood decking, elaborates.

“Humboldt Redwood is one of nature’s finest and strongest building materials with shear strength up to five times greater than plastic or composite decking,” explains Jessica Hewitt, Director of Marketing. “But it has always been its natural beauty that has set it apart—nature got it right the first time. The beauty of redwood is legendary.”

Redwood Benefits

Much lighter weight than plastics, composites, or tropical hardwoods, Humboldt Redwood can be easily cut, sawed, drilled, and nailed with regular woodworking tools. Yet for all that lightness, Humboldt Redwood stands up to the elements with natural durability. Properly maintained, a Humboldt Redwood deck could last anywhere from 25-40 years.

Dimensionally stable, Humboldt Redwood resists warping, cupping, and checking, all while staying comfortable to bare feet even on the hottest, sunniest days. Redwood has also been thoroughly tested and conforms to ASTM E-84, Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials Class B flame spread. Redwood decking Construction Common and better grades are approved for use in California’s Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas without restriction as defined in California Building Code Chapter 7A, Materials and Construction Methods for Exterior Wildfire Exposure.

Humboldt Redwood products are grown and harvested in a responsible, ethical manner with an eye for long-term sustainability. Redwood logs are harvested at a level consistently below the forests’ annual growth rate and Humboldt Redwood replants trees annually; two methods that ensure Humboldt Redwood will be a renewable resource for years to come. And, unlike plastic and composite decking products, Humboldt Redwood can be recycled throughout its useful life. It is also biodegradable and will not end up in landfills.

Redwood Deck Grades
