Revolutionary Node Throws Lifeline To Legacy Plant

Alabama Techy Revamping Cable Industry

ANNISTON, Alabama.--(SCTE)—Communication Associates (CA) today announced Canny, a new take on duplex HFC transport. With plans to build Canny in Anniston, Alabama, CA reaffirms its commitment to American jobs and ingenuity. For 43 years, CA has been the OEM to the OEM, inventing many of the passive and magnetic components used in inside and outside plant alike.

A sleek piece of hardware that’s easy to implement, simply attach Canny to a port on an existing amplifier for a full-blown DOCSIS 3.1 10GB node. But Canny goes much further. It is split-agile with capabilities using two internal jumpers to switch between 65/85, 85/105, and 204/258, and Canny operates a forward path up to 2.2GHz. Canny incorporates another original creation, a patent pending bi-directional PoE port. Canny can both power PoE devices or be powered by PoE. This functionality allows it to backhaul and power PoE cameras, wireless access points, sensors, etc. for applications in municipal and enterprise environments. It can also serve as a media converter for a copper ethernet switch. Canny also fits well in remote phy architecture by playing the role of a daughter node when placed behind an RPD.

CA has consistently driven network performance and value by partnering with OEMs and operators alike in creating solutions to optimize HFC networks. Canny is the next step in that progression.
