Indie fashion line launches first spring collection
Key Largo – Kardan Swimwear, a high-end suit line, launched its first capsule collection. The suits are created by emerging designer, Kelsey Caputo.
The high-performance pieces reflect a coastal living that is laid-back and stylish. Pieces range from $75 to $120, and are on sale at boutique stores dotting the Florida Keys and online at https://kadanswimwear.com .
The capsule collection offers five styles in calypso and baby blue. She envisioned beautiful women wearing her suits having fun and feeling confident when she conceived the idea and started designing.
“Every line tells a story. Mine says elegant costal living for modern women” she said. She also noted having filled sketch books with hundreds of suit designs, albeit rudimentary, from every angle, and thinks about the colors often. “Their basic, but its just to get the ideas down.”
The logical part of launching her line threw her some curveballs, postponing her launch date to the middle of the winter months, which was “bad timing” as temperature dropped.
Getting started she thought she would be able to grab some material, and quickly whip one together at the sewing machine. “Being mistakenly wrong, I spent two hours at the sewing machine before sewing the hips of my bathing suit bottoms together and getting very frustrated. That began my search for a factory.” She said.
“Finding a factory was definitely the hardest part” she said. The time spent in searching and researching she found grueling, but knew it was the boring stuff that makes a business successful.
“I was so lucky to find a family owned factory in Hialeah” said Caputo, 18. “They are the most enjoyable couple and beyond helpful in making my dreams come true”
“I’ve put a lot of time, thought, and money into making these suits. I want them to be high performance, high-end and affordable at a consumer rate.” She said. She chooses fabric very carefully to make sure it is supportive as well as comfortable and fashionable.
With three more designs being added in the next two weeks, Kadan swimwear is going to make a statement as South Florida boasts beach days year-round.
“Every woman should feel comfortable, look. The suit alone is a statement piece, add a bracelet and a wide-brimmed hat for extra flair,” Caputo said.
