DENVER—June 14, 2019—For the first time ever (and just in time for summer), you can see when you need more sunscreen. How? A small purple sticker.

 

Suncayr, a sun safety startup, recently launched their UV detection stickers, SPOTMYUV™, for sale in North America. Be one of the first to experience this innovative technology at Outdoor Retailer’s Demo Day on Monday June 17th, and from the 18-20th at Outdoor Retailer.

 

SPOTMYUV™ stickers start purple and, when sunscreen is applied over top, turn clear to show that you’re protected from the sun. As sunscreen wears off, SPOTMYUV™ turns back to purple, letting users know that more sunscreen is needed. When sunscreen is reapplied, SPOTMYUV™ turns clear again. The color goes back and forth through several sunscreen applications; one sticker can be used to gauge a person’s sun protection throughout an entire day of adventure.

 

The patent-pending technology powering SPOTMYUV™, called dermaTRUE™, mimics the way human skin interacts with sunscreen. It’s clinically proven to ensure that the color change occurs as soon as skin loses SPF due to environmental conditions, activities the person is doing (e.g. swimming), or the degradation of their sunscreen.

dermaTRUE™ is a huge eye-opener.


A second version of the product, the SPOTMYUV™ SPORT kit, was designed with the outdoor athlete in mind. This brand-new SKU is found only in the U.S. and will be available first at Outdoor Retailer.

 

SPOTMYUV™’s founder, Derek Jouppi, is an Australian National gold medalist paddler who faced challenges using sunscreen on the water. “Because I’m doing thousands of strokes per training or race, I was worried that my SPOTMYUV™ might fall off in the water, or that my greasy sunscreen hands might cause me to lose grip on my blade. I took these problems to the Suncayr team, and we created the SPORT kit. The kit includes wipes which create a stronger bond with my skin. The wipes then allow me to clean my hands after using sunscreen, giving me the best possible grip for competition.”

 

Suncayr has been operating in Australia since 2016, where skin cancer rates are the highest in the world. Clinical trials in Australia proved that people reapply sunscreen twice as often when using SPOTMYUV™, and use two and a half times more sunscreen.

In October 2018, SPOTMYUV™ was launched to the Australian market with great success. One Australian mom exclaimed on Facebook, “Just got ours, and the kids were EXCITED to put on their sunscreen so they could wear [SPOTMYUV™]. Just this reaction makes me happy!!”
