Contract Manufacturer Wants to Hear Your Issues, Ideas
LAKE ZURICH IL, June 14, 2019. . .Alpha Tekniko, an FDA-registered contract manufacturer of advanced therapeutic support surfaces, wants to know if today's support surface designs make WOC nurses' jobs easier...or harder.

Ted Lazakis, owner and CEO of Alpha Tekniko, pointed out that although the company has been in business since late 2008, the nature of contract manufacturing has kept it behind the scenes. "We are not exactly a household name," Lazakis said, "except to the customers we've served for the last ten years."
In keeping with his often-stated commitment to help eliminate pressure injuries, Lazakis developed and patented a cooled healthcare mattress that auto-adjusts to a patient's body temperature and maintains a cool, dry surface - without releasing moist, possibly contaminated air from inside the mattress into the room environment.
The TekTherm (R) system, ready for nurses to experience in booth 312, can be installed in a variety of healthcare surface types: full mattresses, either air/foam combinations or all foam; overlays; stretcher pads; operating room table pads; and wheelchair cushions.
Another integrated mattress concept on display in booth 312 incorporates a pressure-sensing system that redistributes pressure and self-adjusts as a patient moves around. The system can also notify caregivers when an immobilized patient is experiencing too much pressure in a vulnerable spot and needs to be turned.
"The big advantage to this new technology is that caregivers don't have to be at the patient's bedside to see the turning alerts," explained Lazakis. "A tiny microprocessor inside the mattress can actually send a signal to a mobile device, central monitor or iPad. The caregiver is notified the minute a patient exceeds a pre-set time limit in a fixed position, and knows immediately that it's time for a change."
Both medical mattress concepts were developed with caregiver input, but further evaluation, trials and WOC nurse critiques will help establish whether or not the products will make their jobs easier - not just by improving patient outcomes, but by replacing some manual tasks with automated systems that will supplement existing skin care protocols.
