FOR THE FIRST TIME IN NEW YORK HEMISFERIUM PRESENTS ITS ANTIQUE SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENT COLLECTIONS

-Hemisferium is a family-owned Spanish company, specialized in recovering and updating old technology, and creating beautiful objects for new audiences.

-For the first time in NY NOW, Hemisferium presents its collection of reproductions of antique scientific instruments.

Beyond its exotic names, astrolabes and zoetropes are extremely interesting instruments that very few people are familiar with today. Only amateur astronomers or movie history buffs may have heard of them.  These instruments were important developments in the history of technology. They are distant predecessors of satellites, GPS, cinema and Netflix.

Hemisferium is a family-owned Spanish company that creates reproductions of antique scientific instruments with the desire to bring these beautiful devices to a wider public. Since the late 1980s, they have designed and made in their workshop clocks, astrolabes, zoetropes, praxinoscopes, sextants, sundials, compasses and more. All its pieces are thoroughly researched, meticulously designed and fully functional too, which means they can be used in very much the same way they were originally conceived to be used. It’s a labour of love and dedication.

The development of each piece is usually a long and complex process. Instruments are chosen because of their historical value, their beauty and other attributes. The approach is always multidisciplinary, requiring the participation of experts in astronomy, designers and specialized craftsmen. Materials are carefully selected and prototypes are made. Finally, special care is taken in designing the most appropriate packaging. Instruction manuals are in 4 and sometimes 6 languages. They then travel and are shown in international fairs.

Hemisferium’s collections are not subject to trends or fashion. They grow gradually and organically. Because each is a classic, products are rarely discontinued. These are timeless objects that can easily blend in with any kind of environment and they invariably become conversation pieces.

This is the first time Hemisferium brings its collections to NY NOW.
