Promoting Safety in the Casino

Anyone who has been to a casino knows that situations occur, ranging from spilled drinks and medical issues to serious events that require security to intervene. These incidents may cause confusion, especially among employees.

Vector Solutions for Casinos, through two products, Vector EHS and Vector LiveSafe, provides resolutions for both ordinary and dangerous events.

“They are communication and risk management tools to create a culture of safety for employees and customers,” says Madison Fray, Marketing Content Specialist and Events Manager for Vector Solutions.

With 350 clients, including Boyd Gaming, Bally’s Corporation and Foxwood Resorts, Vector Solutions has provided its services to gaming operators for more than 10 years. The company’s suite of solutions includes tools for learning, operational readiness, and workforce and risk management through two products: Vector EHS and Vector LiveSafe.

“Many know that we have the learning management system and training courses,” says Senior Director of Product Marketing Cheri Lane. “But they may not know we also have a system (Vector EHS) that will also help track their OSHA compliance, reporting and analysis, which helps them avoid fines and proactively address areas of concern.

Vector EHS helps casinos track regulatory compliance and develop safety management strategies that ensure customer and employee safety while minimizing the risk of liability claims.

Vector LiveSafe is an emergency mass notification system to help casinos prepare for and respond to crisis situations, weather emergencies, suspicious behavior and other unpredictable events. Co-developed by Kristina Anderson, a survivor of the Virginia Tech mass shooting in 2007, LiveSafe creates a risk-aware culture that promotes preparedness by equipping staff with a multi-channel messaging app to rapidly connect with the appropriate personnel when a safety or security situation arises.

Through an app that employees can access through communication devices, including smartphones, LiveSafe provides early warnings when there are incidents on casino floors, and allows employees to report suspicious activities, remedy potential hazards and submit safety reports, through messages that can include images and videos.

Lane calls LiveSafe “a safety net at your fingertips if you need help … if there’s something about to happen or something that looks suspicious, and you need to report it to the right people.”

“In casinos we want to create a culture of safety and compliance on the regulatory side, but there’s also an aspect of creating a culture of preparedness for your employees,” Fray says. “It empowers employees to report concerns and create a better safety environment overall.”
