Blast Furnace Stove Refractories & Operations II
Three-dimensional unsteady CFD analysis is done to investigate the mixing of hot and cold gas streams during the on-blast period in radial entry-type and tangential entry-type mixing chambers of a hot blast stove, which are commonly used in industry. Main drawbacks of these types of mixing chamber found in our analysis are large mixing length and inefficient mixing. It requires a lot of materials and large space between the blast furnace and the stoves. A new design of mixing chamber is presented, where efficient mixing of hot and cold gas streams is achieved within a very short mixing length by generating high turbulence.
