Tracks: Long Products & SBQ

The performances required of special bar quality steels demand a precise control of both the mechanical characteristics and metallurgy structures along the whole production chain. Recently, new "forging-like" processes have been developed for rolling large semi-products, where the traditional ingot casting route is replaced by continuous casting followed by controlled high-reduction rolling. With the proper combination of rolling parameters, a sound control of the metallurgy structure is obtained, so to remove the internal discontinuities ("voids") generated during the continuous casting. The increased yield and productivity of these forging-like processes are beneficial to the plant operations.
