In this paper, a new vision-based strip steering control for HSM is proposed. Demand for high-quality strip is increasing, especially tighter tolerances for profile and flatness. A new strip steering control solution has been developed by Primetals Technologies and tested on the plant TKSE WBW1 in Duisburg, Germany. The latest vision-based measurement equipment from Primetals Technologies is installed and used for feedback. Furthermore, the modern control strategies such as model predictive control and advanced Kalman filtering techniques have been implemented. Different control strategies for automatic threading, in-bar control and thread-out have been tested on-site for common and challenging materials. The first tests with several hundred strips show excellent results in strip-run and width-wedge quality.
