Tracks: Alternate Cokemaking: Coal Compaction, Briquetting & Reverts

This study aims to analyze the quality of coal briquettes produced in the White Gold Gerdau pilot plant, in order to characterize the product obtained according to its mechanical strength, size, and type of binder used. Thus, correlating the different methodologies, the importance of coal interaction with the binder, we evaluated four mixtures with different percentages of briquette, which directly influenced the quality of the coke produced in the pilot plant. The impacts were: increased mechanical resistance to cold and hot, increased coke yield for blast furnaces and the expansion of the mixture. Finally, the best results were achieved in the range between 10% and 20% briquettes in the mixture, providing improved results in the tireless search for cost reduction in deriving from coal.
