Direct Reduction Technology Research & Development
Temperature and gas quality are two important parameters of the reduction process in a DRI shaft furnace. One of the resources for a higher-temperature operation is the use of oxygen injection, which has the drawback of decreasing the reduction potential of the process gas. In this research, a lab method was developed to study the impact of temperature profile and gas quality in the MIDREX® direct reduction process. This new method enables evaluation of raw material performance in an environment much closer to real operation than commonly used methods.
