Tracks: Raw Materials — Sintering & Pelletizing

Iron ore pellets are used as raw materials for the production of hot metal in blast furnaces along with the iron ore sinter, lump ores and iron ore pellets. The quality of pellets can be affected by several factors, such as: type of raw material, proportion of binders, fluxes and fuel, and its subsequent heat treatment. The present work aims to characterize iron ore pellets through helium pycnometer techniques, optical and scanning electronic microscopy, compression strength, determination of reducibility index, free swelling index and reduction-disintegration index, as well as understand the correlations between these properties. It was observed that the final quality of pellets serves as a parameter, so that the operators can control the pelletizing process and thermal treatment of pellets.
