New Developments in Long Products Quality Assurance (Room 103A)

The reproducibility of tight tolerances is a challenge due to always-changing framework conditions like rolling of a large number of different steel grades with a big variance of spreading behavior or rolling temperature. KOCKS faced this challenge and developed the Size Control System (SCS®). The SCS has in its core a real-time closed-loop control system to hit and maintain optimal size tolerances and ovality during rolling with a Reducing and Sizing Block (RSB®) over a long period of production, irrespective of varying rolling conditions. Following the experience Kocks made in the last 70 years with pass design, commissioning and feedback from operators KOCKS developed a product tailored to these needs that is capable of changing process parameter like roll positioning and speed adjustment of an RSB automatically.
