The continuous casting of high-Al-containing steel inevitably induces the reduction of SiO2 in conventional mold flux, which significantly changes the physico-chemical properties of mold flux. One of the research directions for new mold flux design applicable for high-Al steel is high-Li2O-containing mold flux with low SiO2. However, such mold flux design is very difficult because of limited information on the phase diagram, thermodynamic and physical properties, such as viscosity. In this study, we will present our new thermodynamic and viscosity database for the Li2O-Na2O-K2O-CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-F system, and systematic calculation results for searching for new mold flux composition suitable for the high-Al steel casting process.
