Fall protection is an important issue in the steel industry, since working at heights presents a risk where even minor mistakes may lead to serious injury or death. To reduce the likelihood of fall-related incidents, workers must complete necessary safety training before they start work. Interactive 3D software has been developed to provide a virtual environment in which employees choose the appropriate fall arrest equipment to complete a job task at height. Through the use of this software, workers can see how their choice of fall arrest equipment and on-the-job behaviors impact their personal safety. This software provides a tool for employers to assess the competency of an employee who has completed classroom training, prior to the employee working at heights. This will help to identify any areas that employees may need additional training.
