Tracks: Scrap & Materials

The telescope EAF is a furnace with telescopic roof closure which allows for single-bucket charge practice even with a very low scrap density. The unique feature of such a furnace is the possibility for gradual shell volume decrease in function of the melting process progress. Since the start-up in 2010, the furnace operation has been continuously optimized, with the main focus on uniform melting of a high pile of scrap with limited caving, as well as on enhancement of liquid metal yield. This paper reveals various process improvements implemented recently and their influence on the operational results.
