Tracks: Tundish Optimization

One of the key metrics utilized by the steel industry is tons per tundish or heats per tundish. Many factors contribute to the overall impact of how each tundish is utilized. These factors include refractory constraints, schedule constraints and yield constraints. In order to optimize the tundish life for steel grades produced at ArcelorMittal Cleveland, a number of projects were analyzed and implemented to optimize tundish performance. Areas of discussion include: tundish gate design, SEN design, upper tundish nozzle design, tundish yeld, tundish grade mixing practices, and ULC grade sequence optimization. This presentation will demonstrate past practice versus current practice, trial results, and the quality results associated with these process changes.
