Modernization of TKSE’s No. 1 Continuous Caster

In October 2014, the No. 1 continuous caster at the ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe (TKSE) Duisburg-Beeckerwerth works was successfully commissioned after a comprehensive revamp by SMS group. This caster allows TKSE to provide the automotive industry with premium products. SMS group supplied the whole engineering, all mechanical components and the complete X-Pact® automation system based on a holistic, unified concept with integrated safety technology for these complex modernizations of a 2-strand, bow-type casting machine. To assure a steep start-up curve, the highly sophisticated automation system was set up, tested and pre-optimized by realistic simulations prior to commissioning. It is equipped with a user-friendly HMI containing advanced analysis options, interlocking and bypass functions.
