The passivity and protective surface of stainless steels are related to its ability to form stable passive oxides, and the nitrocarburizing process can be a way to improve the corrosion resistance. In this work, the influence of plasma nitriding temperature on the corrosion resistance of AISI 304 stainless steel (ASS) was investigated. The electrochemical behavior of the treated surface has been examined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear polarization (LP). The sample submitted to the nitrocarburizing at 375°C has exhibited higher corrosion resistance because it was free from nitrides.
