Tracks: Inclusion Analysis

This study examined the behavior of Al2O3 inclusions in laboratory heats after deoxidation with 0.1 wt. % Al, Ca treatment and reoxidation. Experiments with 100-ppm O additions and two Ca levels were compared to non-reoxidized heats. Samples were taken at various points after the different additions were made. Automated SEM/EDS microanalysis was used to analyze the inclusions' compositions. Size distributions were analyzed by calculating population density functions of Al2O3 formed at different times to confirm the mechanism of Al2O3 formation. Electrolytic etching was performed on the sample surface, and the morphology of inclusions was observed by manual SEM/EDS.
