Post-operative complications from ostomy surgery is the second leading cause of readmission nationwide. An especially affected population are ileostomates, who are prone to dehydration and skin issues which lead to readmission. This session explores published data on the usage of post-operative education to prevent adverse health events. This data is further explored by case studies combining the usage of a flexible barrier technology in a high output pouch with education and support to prevent complications in the issue-prone ileostomy population.
