Operation of the First HIsmelt Plant in China (Room 405)

08 May 19
8:30 AM - 9:00 AM

Tracks: Ironmaking

The first HIsmelt plant in China started up in 2016 and is producing 600,000 tpy of hot metal using iron ore fines and non-coking coals for lower cost and lower environmental emissions compared to local blast furnaces. The plant uses some of the equipment from the first commercial HIsmelt plant in Australia, but most equipment was sourced locally. The Australian plant proved that the HIsmelt process worked technically, and now the Chinese plant proves the economics.
