A radiant tube (RT) is generally used for the heating of steel plate in a continuous annealing line (CAL). The aim of the radiant tubes is to transfer heat to the steel plate through irradiation. The RT includes a recuperator, which facilitates heat exchange between the exhaust gas after combustion and the air before it is used. The authors achieved a large reduction of fuel cost as a result of installing heat transfer enhancement units for the RT recuperator and improving heat exchanger effectiveness.
