Effect of M-EMS on Steel Solidification Behavior of a Round Billet Casting (Room 411)

A 3D mathematic model coupling the electromagnetic field, melt flow, heat transfer and solidification in the whole casting domain is established to study the effect of M-EMS on steel solidification behavior of a round billet casting. The gravitational acceleration is reconstructed to simulate the curve of strand. The model is validated by the measured data of magnetic flux density and strand surface temperature. The results show that the solid fraction totally moves forward while the crater end just decreases by 0.2 m with the application of M-EMS. Moreover, the influencing zone of the electromagnetic stirrer is mainly within the mold region.
