A generic open-source computational fluid dynamics model based on OpenFOAM® capable of evaluating the performance of alternative reducing agents (ARA) is presented. The code is based on an Eulerian multi-fluid approach employing the kinetic theory of granular flows or a Lagrangian model for flowing solid phases like coke or iron ore. ARAs are modeled as reactive Lagrangian phases and are coupled to fluid and solid phases. Theoretical background of the model implementation as well as results with practical applications will be shown.
