Tracks: Maintenance & Reliability

Speaker(s): Mark Ferra, REXA
Blast furnaces need a constant and reliable supply of compressed air to ensure an optimized level of oxygen for the burning process and pressure to maintain proper circulation of the hot metal burden. A major steel producer in Indiana recently replaced the existing steam governor actuator due to poor reliability and high service expenses. REXA’s patented ELECTRAULICTM actuation technology can react (4-5 Hz) to small, constantly varying changes in control signal with a repeatability of <0.1% travel position. This approach vastly simplifies the steam admission valve rack for RPM control which dramatically improves turbo blower maintainability and blast furnace availability.
