The crystallization of the widely used CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3 slags within a broad range of Al2O3/SiO2 mass ratios (A/S) was studied. In addition, selective crystallization of a P-enriched phase in steelmaking slags was also evaluated. With higher A/S, the crystallization temperature was increased and shorter incubation times were observed, which resulted in the acceleration of crystallization in the present slag system. Phase analysis indicated the primary phase to be Ca2MgSi2O7 or Ca3MgSi2O8 to Ca2Al2SiO7 during crystallization, which correlated well with the structural analysis. P-enriched phases were observed to be a dissolution of the P2O5 into 2CaO·SiO2 to form n2CaO·SiO2-3CaO·P2O5 phase.
