Structural Change of Coke Structure During the Burden Descent in an Experimental Blast Furnace (Room 403)

During its descent inside the blast furnace (BF), coke is affected by chemical, mechanical and thermal conditions, which induce changes in its structure and influence the properties. Therefore, the structural change occurring at various stages during its descent is a key to understand its quality. In this work, coke samples from various depths inside an experimental BF have been analyzed using several characterization methods, such as petrographic and BET specific surface area measurement. The results provide in-depth information on the structural transformation of coke and help to understand its behavior in a more comprehensive way.
