Tracks: Cranes

Remote control of cranes sensibly improves technical process efficiency and the safety level of operations. The crane operator is no longer exposed to metal industry hazards: the control is performed from a safe station with increased ergonomics. Driving and monitoring crane operations is easier and safer than in the past. A smart CCTV camera system automatically interacts with the crane and the technological process, giving the operator an enhanced vision of the action, optimized and free from any visibility constraints that bridge cabin shape and position may have. This paper will describe the successful experience of using remote control on an electric arc furnace charging crane in a meltshop in Seixal, Portugal.
