Lime Dissolution in the BOF Process (Room 411)

The aim of this study is to evaluate the lime dissolution capacity of slags with different compositions. We used different particle sizes and calcination levels of the lime. The temperature used was 1,350°C. The tests were conducted in a electric furnace using lime samples of 6 mm and 9 mm particle size and 80% and 100% calcinated at different slag basicity. The results showed that the increase of slag basicity resulted in reduction of the lime dissolution rate, and that a lower lime calcination level produced a faster dissolution process, as did smaller particles sizes.
