Heat Transfer Modeling of an Industrial Quenching Device (Room 412)

The quenching process has an important role in steel pipe production, since it results in optimized properties of the material. A better understanding and control of the process parameters would lead to a better final product. Thus, mathematical models were developed to simulate the heat transfer phenomena during quenching. In the present work, an existing mathematical model was modified to adapt to the daily process of industrial pipe production. In this model, a cooling curve during quenching can be simulated in order to allow the prediction of the pipe’s final microstructure.
