In order to reduce electrode consumption in LF#1 in Tenaris Tamsa, a set of tests changing voltage-current relationship were planned. Historically, this furnace used the transformer in a middle tap position from the available range, and during the last decade, metallurgical practices suffered several modifications with an increasing steel shop productivity as well. Hence, it was necessary to modify electrical configurations and heating profile taking into account process and productivity constraints. After introducing these changes, it was possible to reduce around 30% of electrode consumption without affecting metallurgical results.
