RCF fiber is the preferred fiber lining for annealing and reheating furnaces for excellent thermal conductivity, low density and thermal mass. Under intense scrutiny after numerous health studies, today there are additional concerns surrounding crystalline silica exposure in the workplace. Answering RCF concerns, low bio-persistent AES fibers were introduced but with a 1,000°C classification and poor resistance to pollutants, universal substitution in the iron and steel industry was not possible. HTIW development now produces a low bio-persistent K-Al-Si fiber with a 1,450°C classification, alkali pollution resistance and with no crystalline silica development, branded Superwool XTRA, in service for several years with excellent performance.
