Reducing OpEx on Pre-Heating the EAF by Analyzing Heat Balance and Gas Concentration (Room 406)

In order to reduce the OpEx of the EAF, we installed ECOARCâ„¢ (a scrap pre-heating EAF made by SPCO) in 2015. To maximize the thermal efficiency of scrap pre-heating without decreasing the scrap yield, we evaluated the energy balance of our ECOARC and analyzed gas components inside the EAF and outside the shaft. Using these data, we established an operation method of utilizing secondary combustion heat as much as possible and keeping a low oxygen concentration inside the EAF by proper use of oxygen and carbon. Thanks to these efforts, we have reduced our OpEx by achieving significantly low electric and electrode consumption.
