Innovative Top Combustion Hot Stoves of Kalugin Design for High Technical and Environmental Performance (Room 405)

Continuously growing competition in ironmaking, as well as toughening of requirements to environmental safety standards, requires application of innovative engineering solutions by ironmakers. Selection of the hot blast stove design significantly influences capital and operating expenditures for iron production. Top combustion stoves of Kalugin design (or Kalugin shaftless stoves) achieve the hot blast temperature of 1,300-1,350°C using standard refractory and provide high economic and environmental performance with a service life of 30 years. This paper presents an innovative design of Kalugin stoves exemplified by successful cases of stove construction for NTMK BF No. 7 in Russia and some European plants.
