VSB Blast Furnace Operation With High Productivity Using High Oxygen Enrichment (Room 404)

As the demand for steel has increased and as scrap prices have increased, it became feasible to reactivate VSB's blast furnace No. 2 in April 2018. In this scenario, a strategy to reduce the hot metal cost is achieved with high productivity in the blast furnace, reaching up to 2.9 tons/day/m3. VSB blast furnace No. 2, designed with a working volume of 350 m3, is fueled with charcoal. This paper describes the practices utilized to reach the production target, such as burden distribution through movable armor, pulverized coal injection (PCI) rate control and oxygen enrichment.
