Tracks: Safety & Health

Steelmaking facilities have been hit hard with the significant cleanup costs and lost production time associated with the smelting of a highly radioactive source mistaken as scrap metal. Even though the vast majority of plants were monitoring their incoming scrap shipments, these accidents continued to happen. Meltshop personnel have no idea a radioactive source has entered the heat until significant time has passed, causing unnecessary radiation exposure to plant personnel and increased contamination of the plant, equipment and finished products. The Rad Melt early warning system can help to minimize personnel exposure and plant contamination.
