Reoxidation of Al-Killed ULC Steel by FetO in CaO-Al2O3-MgO-FetO Slag During Secondary Refining Process (Room 410)

FetO in a secondary refining slag can reoxidize Al-killed ultralow-carbon (ULC) steel, thereby deteriorating the final product quality and process efficiency. In the present study, a series of experimental investigations was carried out in order to measure time evolution of steel composition by the FetO. By employing rate equations based on mass transport in the steel and the slag, an apparent rate constant of overall reaction was extracted. It was found that the dominant rate-controlling step of the reoxidation reaction changes depending on the steel and the slag compositions.
