A standard practice to avoid slopping events in BOF shops is to maintain conservative blowing profiles, resulting in yield and productivity losses. Tenova’s Intelligent Slop Detection System (ISDS®) is a highly reliable, patented module of the iBOF® suite, which dynamically adjusts the blowing profile when a slopping event is imminent. Providing advance warning, the system dynamically adjusts lance conditions to mitigate the slopping event and resumes normal blowing when the threat has ended. Using current project data from a recent installation, this paper will summarize the significant savings obtained, including higher blowing rates, increased yield and productivity, and reduced emissions.
