Performance of the Electromagnetic Stirring System Applied to the Flat Bath Consteel® Operation (Room 406)

The application of the electromagnetic stirring system ArcSave® to the Consteel® process allows to control the liquid steel movement in flat bath operation, enhancing the continuous scrap melting process and further improving the Consteel® performance. The expected results of this system are described in this paper, which provides an overview of the features of the technology developed by Tenova and ABB with complete fluid-dynamic simulations. This paper also highlights the consistency of the EAF performance as well as the benefits of maintenance and safety, due to the elimination of stirring porous plugs.
