Viscosity Modeling for CaO-MgO-MnO-SiO2-Al2O3 Molten Slags (Room 405)

A structure-based viscosity model has been developed for the CaO-MgO-MnO-SiO2-Al2O3 system and its subsystems. The experimental data for the MnO-bearing aluminosilicate systems have been reviewed and used for modeling. This model links the viscosity and the structures of the melts. The structural characteristics of an aluminosilicate melt can be described by four types of oxygen: bridging oxygen O0, non-bridging oxygen O-, free oxygen O2-, and excess bridging oxygen O*. The present model is capable of predicting the viscosities in a CaO-MgO-MnO-SiO2-Al2O3 system and its subsystems over the wide composition and temperature range above liquidus within experimental uncertainties.
