Dramatically Increasing Tension Leveler Capacity on an Existing Pickler Without Increasing Line Length (Room 307)

The need for more powerful tension leveling is increasing proportionally with the increase in material strength of steel that can be produced. The problem is that using traditional methods of producing the tension needed to level this material has resulted in equipment that occupied a huge footprint. Using Umlauf bridles and a strengthen leveler, it will be shown that a 280,000-lb. tension leveler can be installed in a current line without increasing the line length. Equipment will be installed in the first quarter of 2019 and results will be material that can be elongated with the new leveler that weren't possible before.
