Innovative Treatment Strategies Improve DRI Plant Efficiency and Availability (Room 402)

In 2016, voestalpine Texas LLC was commissioned by Midrex Technologies Inc. and Primetals Technologies Austria GmbH as the world’s largest and most modern HBI plant. The plant’s state-of-the-art design included an innovative water treatment strategy supplied by ChemTreat Inc. to address specific client needs. During the first maintenance shutdown after 22 months of continuous operation, voestalpine Texas set new performance records that had not been previously realized at any other DR plant globally. This paper describes the typical areas of the MIDREX® direct reduction process, focusing on the impact of the ChemTreat water treatment system on plant operations and maintenance.
